Chasing Rainbows is a continuous loop animation designed to create a meditative, immersive experience, where motion flows endlessly, blurring the boundaries between the virtual and the real. The work functions as an exploration of digital identity, self-perception, and the evolving relationship between human consciousness and virtual existence.

I developed this self-portrait during COVID-19 isolation, a time marked by confinement and uncertainty. The animation embodies a shape-shifting journey, reflecting the psychological tension of enclosed space and the anxieties surrounding an unpredictable future. Within this digital realm, my avatar exists in an eternal state of motion—running, flying, and transforming—without a clear destination or resolution. This endless pursuit mirrors the search for meaning, the desire for escape, and the fluid nature of identity in virtual environments.

At its core, Chasing Rainbow captures a profound moment of realization—the first time I animated my avatar in a digital space, I felt a part of my consciousness extend into this virtual entity. The experience was more than a technical process; it became an exploration of embodiment, where the self is no longer confined to physical reality but exists simultaneously in digital landscapes. The work questions the authenticity of digital presence—if we feel and perceive through our avatars, does that not make these digital experiences real?

Beyond the animation, the work extends into physical space through its presentation format. The custom-shaped frames I design for my paintings challenge traditional rectangular compositions, allowing abstract forms to become autonomous spatial elements. These structures echo the fluidity of the digital realm, where shapes are not bound by conventional constraints but instead emerge as independent entities.

Chasing Rainbow is both a celebration and a paradox—a vision of limitless virtual freedom that simultaneously reflects the escapism inherent in digital immersion. It invites the viewer to reconsider the nature of selfhood, embodiment, and the evolving landscape of reality.
